Athma Nilayam Nursery Gardens, located in Cheruvarakonam in the Thiruvananthapuram District, and on the border of Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu, has become one of my favourite destinations for purchasing both flowering and non-flowering plants over the past two years. It is situated at a distance of 39 km from Thiruvananthapuram city and 35 km from Nagercoil city.
I have visited this nursery four times already and have been impressed each time by the wide variety of plants available for sale. Every visit leaves me in awe of the beauty and diversity of the plants that are displayed there.
If you are looking for a garden to purchase plants and spend quality time with your family and children, then this garden may be the perfect choice for you. It is one of the largest gardens, covering an area of 10 acres. Upon entering the garden, you will be greeted by a diverse range of birds and fishes, which is sure to impress and delight your children.
You will find a wide variety of indoor and outdoor plants neatly arranged into different sections. Once you have selected a plant, you can call upon one of the helpful staff members who will take it from you and keep it in a designated area until you have finished selecting your desired plants.
The only downside I have observed is the lack of seating areas for visitors who may need to rest. However, if you are solely focused on purchasing plants and not spending extended periods of time there, then this should not be a concern. You can easily purchase your desired plants and depart.
The plant section that caught my attention the most is the one with miniature plants placed in ceramic pots. Presenting those small plants planted in ceramic pots could be a wonderful gift idea for your dear ones. In addition to the plants, they are also selling various types of pet and domestic animals such as dogs, cats, cows, goats, and more.
The majority of the staff working at the garden are women between the ages of 40 and 50. They are friendly and patient when answering questions about plants. However, their knowledge about plants may be limited. If you require more information about a particular plant before purchasing it, I would recommend that you ask for the plant’s name and conduct further research using Google. A staff member will accompany you throughout your visit and assist you with your purchases until you have completed your plant purchasing.
In addition to plants, the athma nilayam nursery gardens also offers a selection of beautiful flower pots, grow bags, fertilizers and compost for sale. The plants are similarly priced when comparing to other gardens and some plants are even in the least price. Also, the garden boasts a wider variety of plant collections that are not commonly found in other gardens.
