Lemur Beach (aka, Ayiram Kaal Pozhimugam Beach or Ganapathipuram Beach) is a renowned tourist destination located in Ganapathipuram, a locality in Nagercoil of Kanyakumari district. Its pristine waters and immaculate coastline of Arabian Sea have earned it the reputation of being one of the most sought-after beaches in the district. In this article, we will explore Lemur Beach in detail.
As a resident located just 30 kilometres away from Lemur Beach, I have visited this popular tourist destination frequently. However, I recently revisited the beach to see the latest developments and provide an authentic review, while also capturing some excellent photos to complement my write-up.
Journey and Natural Beauty Along the Way
I began my journey from Nagercoil towards Lemur Beach, which is approximately 11.5 kilometers away. I started at around 3:00 pm. As I approached the area, my gaze was immediately drawn to the sight of several towering coconut trees lining both sides of the road, extending for about 200 meters. I parked my car in the parking space provided between the coconut trees and made my way towards the entrance of the beach. Parking area may become too muddy during the rainy season. I hope that there will be improvements made to the parking facilities in the future.
As I drew closer, I noticed five to six newlywed couples having a photoshoot amidst the stunning backdrop of the coconut trees. In addition to the coconut trees, there were lagoons nestled in between them that is used for wet processing of coir fibre, adding to the natural beauty of the area. It was no wonder why this place was so popular among newlywed couples for photoshoots.
In entrance of the beach, Drinking water taps had been installed for the convenience of visitors. This will be particularly useful, especially during the hot summer season. It is rare to find other beaches that offer such arrangements for fresh drinking water. A Ganapathy temple is situated near to the entrance area.
As I walked further along, I was greeted by the captivating sight of Lemur Beach – a truly remarkable and awe-inspiring destination. It’s safe to say that this beach is one of the cleanest and most immaculate ones in Kanyakumari. The clear blue water is so mesmerising that you can easily lose track of time admiring its beauty.
To ensure the comfort of all visitors, including those with mobility challenges. A separate wheelchair ramp has been installed to facilitate easy access to the beach. Resting areas are also available, featuring benches made of granite stones that provide a sturdy and comfortable place to sit.
In addition, trees have been planted throughout the area to provide shade for visitors during hot and sunny weather. These trees not only enhance the beauty of the beach but also offer a cool and refreshing respite from the heat. Although Lemur Beach is not yet officially open, many people are already visiting to enjoy its amazing atmosphere and to see the breathtaking views of both sunrise and sunset. The number of people may increase on weekends, making it somewhat crowded.
Inside the beach, i have seen a few stalls that sell tea, snacks, cool drinks, ice creams, and more. I was thrilled to see one stall selling my favorite snacks, such as cauliflower fry, bajji, and vada. Unable to resist, I ordered a plate of cauliflower fry and a cup of tea. I then found a comfortable spot on the sand and admired the breathtaking view of the beach. It was truly an amazing experience to enjoy my snacks and tea while taking in the beautiful scenery.
Restrictions for Safety
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Lemur Beach, admiring the stunning views and taking in the peaceful atmosphere. However, it is important to note that swimming and playing in the water is not allowed. The sea waves can be strong and dangerous, and unfortunately, there have been accidents in the past.
As a safety measure, the police have prohibited swimming and water activities at the beach. While this may be disappointing for visitors who were hoping to enjoy the water, it’s important to prioritise safety and well-being. Despite the swimming restrictions, there are still plenty of activities to enjoy at Lemur Beach.
Best Time to Visit
If you are planning a trip to Lemur Beach, I recommend visiting after 4:30 PM to fully enjoy the beautiful ambiance. Before that time, the sun can be very hot, making it difficult to fully appreciate the beach experience.
Accommodation
If you’re planning to visit this beach, be aware that there are no hotels or restaurants in the immediate vicinity. However, you can find accommodation in the nearby city of Nagercoil, which is 11.5 kilometers away. If you have your own vehicle, getting to the beach should not be a problem. Alternatively, you can ask the hotel staff for assistance in renting a car. It’s important to note that there is no public transportation available for this beach, as it is located on the outskirts of the city.
